About Us
At Curious by Nature Farm and Forest School, we believe that education should extend beyond the walls of a traditional classroom. By immersing children in the wonders of nature and providing them with a well-rounded, experiential education, we prepare them to become curious, compassionate, and resilient individuals ready to make a positive impact on the world.
Our Teacher
My name is Mrs. Rachel, and I am the owner and instructor at Curious by Nature Farm & Forest School. I hold a current Alaska Elementary Education teaching certificate, along with an Occupational Endorsement in Ethnobotany from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. With over 13 years of teaching experience, I have had the opportunity to work in several small village schools throughout Southeast Alaska and to establish a nature preschool in Juneau. In addition to my professional experience, I have homeschooled my own children, who have benefited from our small homestead environment - engaging in activities such as animal care, building projects, gardening, and exploring the surrounding forest.
Our School
Welcome to our community! We are a small homestead located in the boreal forest of Clam Gulch, Alaska. Our primary learning environment consists of our farm and the surrounding forest. Currently, we are transforming an old homesteader’s hay barn into our classroom and workshop. In addition to our outdoor learning spaces, we use a canvas tent at base camp equipped with a wood stove, which provides a warm and comfortable environment for studying and relaxing on colder days until our shop is fully finished.
